FOOTBALL: Tennessee Tech’s Fisher, Tusculum’s Alford earn TSWA weekly awards
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Tennessee Tech’s Bailey Fisher and Tusculum University’s Dee Alford were named the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association for their efforts in contests from November 4-10.

Fisher accounted for 334 yards of total offense and four touchdowns in Tech’s 37-27 victory against Jacksonville State. The Clayton, Ga., native rushed 17 times for 121 yards and two touchdowns while completing 20-of-27 throws for 213 yards and two more TDs. He posted scoring runs of three and seven yards in the first half and added TD throws of three and 26 yards.

Fisher is completing 63 percent of his passes for 2,324 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 409 yards and 10 TDs in 10 games this season.

Alford recorded four tackles and set a Tusculum single-game school record with seven passes defended in a 24-7 win against Mars Hill University. The Griffin, Ga., native collected two interceptions as well while holding South Atlantic Conference reigning Offensive Player of the Year Craig Rucker to just four catches for 59 yards, well below his season averages (8.8 receptions, 124.0 yards).

Alford has 10 career interceptions, third-best in school history. The senior has posted 42 total tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss, five interceptions and 14 pass breakups this season.

MEN’S SOCCER: Bryan’s Goreham named TSWA award winner
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Bryan College’s Joe Goreham earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Men’s Soccer Player of the Week accolades, scoring game-tying and game-winning goals for the Lions in the semifinals of the Appalachian Athletic Conference Tournament.

The Norwich, England, native posted his first two goals of the season in the overtime victory against Reinhardt University, tying the match in the 18th minute on a free kick. The senior found the back of the net in the eighth minute of extra time on assists from Haaris Hussain and Jonathan Ricketts, sending Bryan into this Saturday’s conference championship match against Union College.

WOMEN’S SOCCER: Maryville’s Frizen garners TSWA weekly honor
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Maryville College’s Taylor Frizen registered Tennessee Sports Writers Association Women’s Soccer weekly honors, netting a pair of goals with an assist to earn Tournament MVP honors in the USA South Championships.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native scored on a Shannon Reagan assist in the 21st minute and found the back of the net again in the 34th minute, this one from Lindsey Lewallen. The sophomore assisted on a Reagan goal in the 70th minute, the final score of the match for the Scots, who earned the program’s 10th NCAA Tournament appearance and won the conference tournament for the first time since 2014.

Frizen has scored 15 goals with eight assists in 19 matches this season.

VOLLEYBALL: King’s Ward named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Julie Ward garnered the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Volleyball Player of the Week honors, registering 55 kills and 35 digs in three victories for the Tornado.

The Berthoud, Colo., native posted a career-high 24 kills on 38 total attacks against North Greeneville and followed that with 23 kills and 14 digs, her 12th double-double of the year, versus Emmanuel College. The sophomore ended the week with eight kills and 15 digs at Erskine College, helping King to first place in Conference Carolinas.

Ward leads the club with 316 kills (3.95 per set) and ranks second in digs with 261 (3.25 per set) this season.

MEN’S BASKETBALL: King’s Floyd earns TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– King University’s Jordan Floyd was named the Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Men’s Basketball Player of the Week, netting 34 points in each of the first two games of the year for the Tornado.

The Stone Mountain, Ga., native posted 34 points with four rebounds and four assists in the season-opener against UVA-Wise, hitting 14-of-23 shots overall with a pair of 3-pointers. He added 4-of-8 at the foul line in 32 minutes.

The senior guard followed that with 34 points, four boards, four assists and five steals versus Carson-Newman, connecting on 13-of-25 shots overall, including 4-for-9 from behind the arc. King defeated Carson-Newman for the first time since 2011.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL: Union’s Williams named TSWA Player of the Week
NASHVILLE, Tenn.
– Union University’s Jaelencia Williams garnered Tennessee Sports Writers Association’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week accolades, registering a pair of double-doubles while averaging 27.5 points and 13.5 rebounds in two games for the Bulldogs.

The Indianapolis, Ind., native opened the campaign with 23 points and 11 boards against 15th-ranked Nova Southeastern, making 10-of-17 shots overall and adding four blocks in the victory. The junior collected 31 points and 16 rebounds in a double overtime loss to Barry University the following night, hitting 12-of-22 shots and connecting on 7-for-11 at the foul line.
